Although often barely noticeable and harmless if spotted and treated promptly, leaks will only grow into a bigger problem if left undetected. The consequences of a leak can be enormous and costly, ranging from reduced efficiency, higher operational costs and adverse impacts on the natural environment. Most seriously however, human health and safety can be compromised if dangerous substances - such as some gases - are allowed to leak. As such, having strategies and tools in place to quickly and accurately detect leaks is imperative. Today it is possible to utilise Testo‘s quality instruments to carry out gas leak detection quickly and reliably, identifying the source of the leak. Did you know:According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), red blood cells are able to pick up carbon monoxide more quickly than oxygen. As a result, excessive inhalation of carbon monoxide can result in the gas blocking oxygen from getting into the body.

Hairline cracks in pipes, old and worn out gaskets. Even the tiniest of gas leaks in a natural gas pipe can cause enormous problems. The new testo 316-1 leak detector will help you pinpoint the exact position of a leak when the leak has already been detected using a leak measuring device, for example.

The testo 316-1 gas leak detector. The sure and easy way to detect methane gas

The testo 316-1 is an especially easy-to-use gas leak detector with an adjustable sensitivity dial. The leak detector is equipped with both a visual audible and an alarm. A yellow LED lights up when the reading is higher than 200 ppm CH4. The LED changes to red when the reading is higher than 10 000 ppm CH4. This special feature allows you to pinpoint the exact position of the leak. The testo 316-1 is also equipped with a flexible gooseneck sensor for locating gas leaks in especially hard-to-reach or otherwise inaccessible places.

The optional TopSafe protective cover is designed to protect your detector against impact and keeps out dust and dirt.

Gas leak detection in gas pipes in the heated environment

Gas leak detection is the elementary testing of gas pipe parts for existing leaks. A gas pipe is considered leak-proof when there are no gas leaks from the exposed parts. This means that exposed gas pipes in particular are checked for external leak tightness. Leaks are detected by testing a connection point; e.g. at fittings, flanges, screw fittings and gas control valves. It is also important to check ducts entering buildings and gas pipes concealed in cavities at the air outlets. The most up-to-date way to detect gas leaks is to use an electronic gas detector (“sniffer”).
