The fluid bed dryer TG 200 is used in quality control, sample preparation and R&D departments. It permits the gentle drying of organic, inorganic, chemical or pharmaceutical bulk materials without localized overheating.Suitable materials can be coarse, fine, crystalline, fibrous or leafy. The powerful fan of the fluid bed dryer ensures optimal air throughput so that the products to be dried are loosened up and thoroughly mixed resulting in short drying times. With the interval operation the fluidized bed is mixed even better. Temperature, drying time and air volume can be set digitally and adjusted continuously.

Application Examples

cellulose, coal, coke, compost, leather, pharmaceutical materials, plastic granules, refuse derived fuels, saw dust, soils, splints, waste samples, ...continue to application database

Function Principle

Drying in the Fluid Bed Dryer TG 200 makes use of the fluidized bed process, a technique similar to the one used in large industrial dryers. Ambient air is drawn in through a filter. A blower moves the air across the heating elements, and ultimately forces it through the perforated plate and into the detachable drying container. The solid particles are blown upward and dispersed and thus kept separate from one another. This helps to avoid a caking and sticking of the particles as it often occurs when other drying methods are used.

The air stream of the fluid bed dryer extracts moisture from the particles and then exits through the filter bag in the cover. Using the quick-clamp cover with the filter fleece insert is advisable when dealing with products finer than 100 μm in diameter. The 1000 watt blower provides an air volume of 185 m3/h at idle speed; heater output is 2000 watts. The air volume, heating power and temperature are infinitely adjustable. Temperature control is effected using he display gauge.

Subject to technical modifications and errors

Fluid or Fluidised bed dryer is a kind of equipment used extensively in the pharmaceutical industries to reduce the moisture content in raw ingredients like powder and granules. The working principle of this equipment includes fluidization of the fed materials.

  • What is the aperture size of the filter material of filter hoses and the aperture size of the ring-type filter?

The filter material of filter hoses is made of nylon, therefore we cannot give a specific aperture size.

The aperture size of the ring-type filter is 36 µm.

  • When to use which lid for the TG 200?

Three different types of lids are available for the Fluid Bed Dryer:

  • Clamping lid with filter bag

The sample circulates in a relatively large space which makes the drying process more efficient. Moreover, it is possible to destroy agglomerates by reaching into the drying chamber via the filter.

  • Clamping lid with replaceable filter insert

Less cross-contamination as the surface is easier to clean than the filter bag. The filter inserts can be replaced for each sample.

  • Lid with adapter for three 300 ml glasses

With this lid up to three small-volume samples can be dried. Again, two options are available: filter bags or lids with filter inserts

  • What temperature should not be exceeded during the drying process in the TG 200?

If the filter inserts are used, the temperature should not exceed  90 °C. Sieves should be dried at a maximum temperature of 80°C.

The standard temperature for drying is 80°C.

  • What do I need to consider when drying very fine samples in the TG 200?

The sieve at the bottom of the TG 200 has aperture sizes of 63 µm. For samples with smaller particle sizes a sieve with smaller apertures has to be used to avoid sample loss. Additionally, the lid should be equipped with a filter insert.

Fine samples tend to form a filter cake, in which the dry air only forms channels, whereas the rest of the sample stays wet. In such cases, a drying chamber is the better option.

  • Is the TG 200 suitable for drying dripping wet samples?

We don't recommend to dry dripping wet samples in the TG 200 because water could penetrate the machine and cause damages.
