Function Principle

The pressure plates and die are located in the inner cylinder. The sample is placed between the polished pressure plates. A hydraulic press is then used to apply the necessary pressure to the sample via the die, which projects slightly from the die housing.

Solid, high-quality pellets are an important precondition for reliable and meaningful XRF analysis. The PP 25 is a compact benchtop unit with particularly simple and safe operation. With a pressure force of 25 t it is ideally suited for the preparation of solid samples for XRF analysis. The pellets produced are of high quality and are characterized by their high degree of stability. The piston pressure can be read off from the clearly visible manometer scale. The dies for the Pellet Press PP 25 are available in several diameters and can be evacuated completely.

Application Examples

cement, minerales, ores, raw materials, slag, ...

Is there a fast and uncomplicated test to find out if the sample is fine enough (100 µm) without sieving?

a) Rub a small amount of sample beween you finger tips. If you can still feel some particles, the sample is certainly > 100 µm. If not, it is < 100 µm. If the sample remains in the small grooves of your finger tips, then the mean particle size is approximately 40 µm.

b) You can also take a spatula and rub the sample on a piece of paper. If you can hear a crunching sound, than the sample is most probably > 100 µm.

How can brittle pellets be stabilized?
Brittle pellets can be stabilized with wax. For example 2 g wax are mixed with 8 g sample. Then proceed as usual.

NOTE: If the sample is pressed into a steel ring (PP 35, PP 40), do not use wax. The wax expands under pressure which could result in deformation of the ring.

How to produce a stable pellet with the PP 25
With the PP 25, the pressure is built up hydraulically by hand. To obtain a stable pellet, it is important to keep the pressure for 5-15 seconds and the to release it slowly and consistently.
