Blue Enamelled Steel: Wide and Narrow Mouth

A range of low-cost utility Dewar flasks specially designed for laboratory, hospital and industrial use. Safe for use withall liquid gases and ideal forcold traps. High-quality borosilicate glass inner flasks, ultra-low evacuated in attractive blue stove-enamelled steel outer container, available in 8 capacities.

There are also 4 sizes in this multi-purpose range with models that have an insulated lid, fold-down carrying handle and cushioned base to prevent benchtop damage.

to the Dilvac range comes the 1 litre, 2 litre and 4½ litre tried and trusted borosilicate glass Dewars housed in a blue steel enamelled container. However, this time unlike their sister MS range, we have provided vented lids that can be clamped in place. This offers a lower cost alternative to the stainless steel range and are identical dimensionally inside and out to their stainless steel cousins. This makes them ideally suitable for longer term transportation of liquids and specimens.

The following information is intended as a guide only and should not therefore be taken or given as a guarantee to customers. This is to illustrate the probable time it takes for a Dewar with a lid to empty completely after being filled with Liquid Nitrogen (LN2). This time may alter according to lower or higher ambient temperatures, whether or not the lid is removed once or repeatedly for examination of the contents, whether or not the contents are actually removed for examination and according to the mass of the material being frozen. These times therefore, refer to the DILVAC Dewars with Stainless Steel and Enamelled Steel containers with handles and lids.

1 LITRE 24 Hours
2 Litres 38 Hours
4.5 Litres 72 Hours
7 Litres 90 Hours

Even though Dewars may be almost empty of Liquid Nitrogen, they will continue to be very effective as storage vessels for frozen material, as the material would be held in what is known as the ‘vapour phase’, i.e. the Liquid Nitrogen will have boiled off to become a very low temperature gas. Typically, the vapour phase can be as low a temperature as -160o C to -140o C. This will be of interest to users who want materials held in a frozen state but not necessarily at the exceptionally low temperature of the LN2 itself. Dry-Ice (solid CO2) is also frequently used in Dewars. This exists at the relatively warm temperature of around -90o C. Our tests suggest that holding times for CO2 are about 25% longer than those listed above for LN2. If a customer is using and all Stainless Steel Dewar (no glass) they will probably find a drop in efficiency of some 30% compared to a glass Dewar
