Day Impex Ltd

Day-Impex was founded on 22nd July 1946 by Guy Berger and his brother-in-law, David Yorke. Based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, Day-Impex imported and exported glass giftware, quickly establishing that many of the products such as thermometers, could be manufactured in-house. This transformed the company and it has remained a glass manufacturer to this day.
New product fields were developed: components for cathode ray tubes and quartz crystal devices; the repair and re-gunning of the TV tubes; neon signs; timer glasses, and in 1965 glass bulbs for fire sprinklers.
In 1964 the glass manufacturing activities were transferred to our present base in Earls Colne, near Colchester in Essex.
Day-Impex continued to expand the sprinkler bulb manufacturing capabilities and now uses automatic equipment to produce a range of bulbs from 2.5 mm to 12mm diameter bulbs.
In the 1970’s, product development led to the introduction of the DILVAC range of Dewar Flasks and other laboratory glass products.
In 1990, recognising the need for greater personal hygiene in the workplace and laboratory environments, the LabGUARD and ProCARE range of laboratory soap and hand care products were launched.
To complement our LabGUARD and ProCARE products, we also became the sole UK Distributor of Rely+On™ Virkon™ disinfectants and Rely+On™ PeraSafe™ sterilisers.
We also hand blow traditional Hour Glasses making products for many uses including film studio’s, product launch campaigns, unique structures and enthusiastic woodworkers the world over.
Today the company employs 21 people and celebrated its 75th year in business in 2021.
In 2020 the company was purchased by Martyn Wilks, who had worked for the company for the previous 15 years. Martyn continues the tradition of introducing new products, enhancing product quality, improving efficiency and moving into new markets.
