Properties of phenylhexyl column

■ Strong π - π interaction The
phenyl column has π electrons, and the retention mechanism by π - π interaction is a major feature. In the phenyl column, the spacer (carbon chain) between the phenyl group and the substrate has a different length.
We compared the separation behavior of nitrobenzenes on different columns of various modifying groups (Fig.1). The ODS column and the Phenyl column without the spacer are strongly retained in order of stronger hydrophobicity of nitrobenzenes. With a spacer, retention becomes stronger as the number of nitro groups increases, and a retention mechanism due to π - π interaction strongly appears. L-column2 C6-Phenyl in, Pai-Pai order to take full advantage of the interaction, we introduced a hexyl spacer. This unique structure is the feature of L- column 2 C6-Phenyl , which broadens the range of column selection for improved separation.

■ Differentiation pattern from ODS column
L - column 2 The retention mechanism of C6 - Phenyl is due to π - π interaction and hydrophobic interaction. The same mobile phase as the ODS column can be used and a different separation pattern from the ODS column can be obtained. Fig.2 is a chromatogram comparing impurities in levofloxacin under the same analysis conditions. Levofloxacin is a new quinolone synthetic antimicrobial agent, which is easy to be metal-coordinated, and its peak shape tends to be unstable. In the ODS column, main peaks and impurities could not be separated, but L-column 2 C 6 - Phenyl had a good peak shape and a sufficient degree of separation from impurities was obtained.

L-column 2 Features of C6-Phenyl

(1) Low adsorptivity
L-column 2 C 6 - Phenyl has extremely few metallic impurities in the base silica gel and has a high density of surface coating by end capping, so there is no secondary interaction with metallic impurities or silanol groups and a sharp peak It can be obtained.
Fig.3 is a chromatogram obtained by comparing hinokitiol, a coordination compound, with L- column 2 C6-Phenyl and a commercial column. Among the phenyl columns, the low adsorption of L-column 2 C6-Phenyl is number one.

■ Durability It is
possible to use in the range of pH 2 to 7.5. Even when used in a mobile phase containing 1% TFA, it can be used with long-term stable performance (Fig. 4).
